solo travel for the soul

Nature Reserve - NEOM, Saudi Arabia | The NEOM Nature Reserve region is being designed to deliver protection and restoration of biodiversity across 95% of NEOM.
Traveling alone is a powerful way to discover new places—and yourself. While it can seem daunting, solo travel offers unique benefits and memorable experiences that can truly transform you. Here’s why it’s worth taking the leap and a few tips to make the most of your solo journey.
Why try solo travel:
  1. Self Discovery - Being alone in new places helps you learn more about your strengths, preferences, and resilience.

  2. Total Freedom - You’re in charge of the itinerary! Spend as much or as little time as you want exploring, relaxing, or doing activities you love.

  3. Confidence Boost: Navigating new cultures, languages, and challenges solo builds confidence and independence.

  4. Build Connections: Solo travelers often meet more people along the way, from fellow travelers to locals. It’s a great way to build global friendships.

Tips for making your trip safe and successful:
  1. Plan, but don’t over-schedule: Have a loose plan, but leave room for spontaneity. Too much structure can limit the fun of discovery.

  2. Share your plans and location with someone - Give family or friends a copy of your travel plans, and use your phone to share your real-time location with a trusted person for extra safety.

  3. Pack Light - One of the joys of solo travel is moving easily from place to place. Stick to essentials to keep things stress-free. Ideally, take only what can fit on your back!

  4. Embrace Dining Alone - Bring a journal, book, or just enjoy people-watching. Resist the urge to eat alone in your hotel room. Dining out alone can be surprisingly relaxing and rewarding.

  5. Stay in Safe, Social Accommodations - Look for hostels, guesthouses, or boutique hotels where it’s easy to meet others. Many solo travelers find friends this way! Check the reviews from previous travelers.

  6. Stay Aware, Stay Smart - Trust your instincts and keep an eye on your belongings. Avoid wearing noise cancelling headphones and research any safety tips specific to your destination.

  7. Learn Basic Phrases - In countries where the language differs from yours, knowing a few local phrases goes a long way in connecting with people and navigating with ease. Locals certainly appreciate the effort and gesture.

Solo travel gives you the freedom to create a journey that’s entirely your own. It’s an empowering experience that stays with you long after you return home. So pack your bag, hit the road, and let the world be your companion. 🌍
a few words

finding myself under open skies

Joshua Tree Silhouette
Solo travel has held a special place in my life, both in seasons of being single and in a relationship. It’s my way to reconnect with myself, to come back feeling grounded. Choosing to travel alone doesn’t mean I love my partner any less; it’s simply a way to grow individually, so I can show up better in every part of my life. I’ve ventured solo to new cities, states, and even continents, each trip offering something unique.
One of my most memorable solo adventures was in Joshua Tree, where I stayed in a tiny home deep in the desert. I climbed onto the roof and laid under the stars, feeling small yet full of wonder. I woke before dawn one morning to hike in complete darkness, a mix of fear and thrill rising with each step. That sunrise felt earned, a reminder of what happens when we lean into discomfort. These solo journeys are moments I hold close, little reminders that stepping out alone has a magic all its own.
